This plane is specially created for transportation shuttle 'Buran' and large elements of rocket 'Energiya' from rocket plant to launchpad above fuselage. Based on large strategic bomber/fueltanker Myasischev 3M/M-4. On this shot pictured with '3GT' techological payload. '3GT' include aerodynamic elements for transportation 'Energiya' fueltanks above fuselage. After transport opertaion to launchpad VM-T returned this elements to rocket plant for next operation. VM-T was used in 1982-1988 for experiments work and all real launches 'Energiya' and 'Buran'. After 1988 was build extra-large carrier An-225 'Mriya' (based on An-124 'Ruslan') who carried 'Buran' to Le Bourget in 1989, but not used for real launch.
